Hydroxycut Gummies Review
If you are sensitive to caffeine and you don’t like to swallow pills, finding a good fat burner is almost impossible. But then along comes a product like Hydroxycut Gummies.
As the name implies, Hydroxycut Gummies is a chewable gummy, not a pill. And it’s stimulant free. I was excited to learn about Hydroxycut Gummies. But I still had to find out: is it a good fat burner?
Hydroxycut.com makes three claims about Hydroxycut Gummies and I’ve analyzed each one.
Hopefully, my findings help you decide if Hydroxycut Gummies is worth trying.
Claim #1: Lose Weight
Next to the words “lose weight,” Hydroxycut adds a superscripted reference to this statement:
“Average weight loss with key ingredients (lady’s mantle, wild olive, komijn, wild mint) was 20.94 lbs. vs. 1.70 lbs. in a 12-week study and 16.50 lbs. vs. 1.73 lbs. in an 8-week study. All groups followed a calorie-reduced diet.”
So, essentially, Hydroxycut is claiming you’ll lose weight because they use clinically proven ingredients. What’s the truth behind this claim? Well, let’s take a look at the “key” ingredients:
The Key Ingredients
Hydroxycut Gummies contains the Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Gummies Blend 160mg, which contains two smaller blends: Hydroxyprovia and Hydroxagen.
Hydroxyprovia combines the “key” ingredients, which are as follows:
• Alchemilla vulgaris (lady’s mantle) – treats skin problems and has anti-inflammatory properties.
• Olea europaea (wild olive) – contains powerful antioxidants and may slow aging.
• Cuminum cyminum (komijn or cumin) – the main spice in curry. It aids digestion and may boost metabolism, but this has never been proven in human studies.
• Mentha longifolia (wild mint) – may reduce pain and treat halitosis.
I wasn’t impressed with these ingredients the first time I saw them. They don’t appear to have any weight loss potential. But there’s a reason Hydroxycut calls them “key” ingredients. I’ll explain more in the next section.
Hydroxagen contains five ingredients. Their benefits can be summed up with one word: antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals and slow aging. They may improve overall health and boost energy, too. However, they are not clinically proven to promote weight loss:
• Goji extract
• Acerola concentrate
• Bilberry extract
The Clinical Studies
Hydroxycut.com mentions two studies involving the key ingredients. The first was independently-funded and lasted 12 weeks. The second was funded by Hydroxycut and lasted 8 weeks.
1. Sixty-six overweight and obese people participated in the 12-week study from beginning to end. They were not asked to change their diet or follow an exercise program. But the participants were asked to limit their eating to three meals a day.
One group took the key ingredients in capsule-form 30 minutes before each meal. The control group only ate three meals a day. They were not given a placebo. These are the dosages the first group took, three times a day:
• Alchemilla vulgaris: 60mg
• Olea europaea: 50mg
• Cuminum cyminum: 25mg
• Mentha longifolia: 20mg
• Total: 155mg before each meal or 465mg a day
At the study’s conclusion, the control group had not lost a significant amount of weight. Overweight and obese people taking the key ingredients reduced their BMIs by 4 and 4.5 points, respectively. The average weight loss was 20.94 lbs. No adverse side effects were reported.
2. Hydroxycut claims to have tested the key ingredients. But they don’t provide their research. Unless I can find the study and verify its legitimacy and neutrality, I cannot take the results into consideration.
The Facts Behind Claim #1
Will Hydroxycut Gummies really help you lose weight? It contains 5 antioxidants and 4 clinically proven weight loss ingredients. These proven ingredients are only effective when used in the clinically proven amounts listed above.
Hydroxycut has chosen to hide their dosages in a proprietary blend. I understand why a company would want to protect their formula. But the way I see it, everyone already knows what dosages should be used. So does Hydroxycut really need to keep their dosages a secret? No.
I don’t like proprietary blends because they withhold facts from consumers. You should be able to see if a product contains safe, effective ingredients and dosages before buying it. By hiding the dosages–when it’s unnecessary–Hydroxycut may be hiding the fact that they haven’t included proven dosages. Here’s why I think this…
One Hydroxycut Gummies serving holds 160mg. You are supposed to take 3 servings a day. Research shows you need 155mg total of the key ingredients, three times a day. If Hydroxycut has used the correct dosages, there would only be 5mg left for the remaining 5 ingredients.
Either Hydroxycut has included miniscule amounts of 5 ingredients; in which case, why include them at all? Or the company hasn’t included the proven dosages of the 4 key ingredients.
Claim #2: Stimulant-Free
Hydroxycut Gummies does not contain any caffeine or stimulants. In fact, its formula is identical to Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Caffeine Free. This product entered the market in 2009 after the second recall of Hydroxycut’s product line (more on this later).
Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Caffeine Free was designed to be a stimulant-free fat burner for consumers. However, it has been met with minimal success and average-or-lower customer ratings.
As someone who reacts negatively to caffeine, I’m always glad to see stimulant-free alternatives. But in the case of Hydroxycut Gummies, being stimulant-free may not be a pro. And being identical to the subpar Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Caffeine Free may not be so great either.
The other Hydroxycut products contain caffeine, which is clinically proven to burn fat and reduce appetite. Caffeine is a powerful weight loss ingredient and Hydroxycut Gummies does not have it.
So yes, Hydroxycut Gummies does live up to this claim. But leaving caffeine out is only a good thing if other effective ingredients are used to compensate for the lack.
Claim #3: Great Tasting
I was really excited to hear that Hydroxycut released gummies. I don’t mind swallowing pills, but chewing gummies is much easier and more appealing. But this is the company’s first time making gummies, so does the Mixed Fruit flavor taste good?
At this point, I don’t know. Hydroxycut Gummies is still very new and there aren’t many reviews. The few reviews I did find don’t mention the taste. Each serving does have 3 grams of sugar and several artificial flavors. Hopefully, this will be enough to cover up the cumin and olive flavors.
Why Was Hydroxycut Recalled Twice?
Back before ephedra was banned, Hydroxycut used it in their fat burners. Then, in 2004, a lawsuit was filed against the company. Hydroxycut settled by paying $100,000 and recalling all their ephedra-based products. Within a few months, new Hydroxycut products entered the market.
In 2009, the FDA warned consumers to stop using these new Hydroxycut products due to 23 reports of serious health problems and one death. A 2010 study showed there is a greater than 95% chance that Hydroxycut products caused these problems.
Although the culprit ingredient has yet to be identified, many experts suspect hydroxycitric acid. When the Hydroxycut products were reformulated and released onto the market again, hydroxycitric acid was absent, which further fueled the suspicions.
What Are the Other Hydroxycut Products?
These are the post-2009 products Hydroxycut currently sells:
• Pro Clinical Hydroxycut
• Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Caffeine Free
• Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Instant Drink Mix
• Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Gummies (new)
• Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Sprinkles (new)
• Pro Clinical Hydroxycut MAX!
• Hydroxycut Hardcore
Each product’s ingredients vary slightly; but they all have alchemilla vulgaris, olea europaea, cuminum cyminum, and mentha longifolia.

How to Use Hydroxycut Gummies
I found the following information on AllStarHealth.com. Hydroxycut.com does not provide it.
• Take 1 serving (2 gummies) before your three main meals
• Do not snack between or after meals
• Don’t take more than 2 gummies every 4 hours
• Don’t take more than 6 gummies every 24 hours
• Use Hydroxycut Gummies for 8-12 weeks
Buying Hydroxycut Gummies
Hydroxycut products are sold by Walmart, Costco, Walgreens, GNC, Target, and several other popular stores. When you buy online, the options are more limited. Hydroxycut Gummies is sold on these two sites:
• Hydroxycut.com: $24.99
• Amazon.com: $24.95 (price varies)
• AllStarHealth.com: $14.99 (sale price; may not last)
At first, the price seemed affordable, but then I did some calculations. Each bottle holds 30 servings. Hydroxycut recommends taking 3 servings daily. So, Hydroxycut Gummies lasts 10 days. If you use it for 30 days, the cost will be about $74.97 ($24.99 x 3).
If you use Hydroxycut Gummies for 8-12 weeks like the company recommends, you’ll fork over $139-$210. And these prices don’t include shipping.
Hydroxycut does not accept returns and they don’t issue refunds.
Should You Buy Hydroxycut Gummies?
I have yet to be impressed by a Hydroxycut product. But when I saw Hydroxycut Gummies, I had high hopes it would actually live up to the claims. Unfortunately, Hydroxycut Gummies did not meet my expectations.
Hydroxycut Gummies does contain 4 clinically proven weight loss ingredients. But Hydroxycut withholds dosages and prevents consumers from seeing if the product is safe and effective. This secrecy bothers me because it is completely unnecessary and it leaves consumers in the dark. You should know if you’re getting a safe, effective product before paying $75 a month.
My lack of confidence in Hydroxycut Gummies’ effectiveness and the absence of a money back guarantee prevent me from recommending this product. There are many better options out there.
